A woman who was still grieving the tragic loss of her husband was found to be 3 times the drink-drive limit when she crashed her car in Shanklin, a court has heard.
Sarah Hubbard, 52, of St John’s Road in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to drink driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday.
The court heard that on 29th July, Hubbard was involved in an incident on Regent Street in Shanklin, that saw her Vauxhall Corsa lightly collide with another vehicle.
Multiple witnesses filmed Hubbard as she drove away without stopping. She is said to have put her middle finger up.
The matter was reported to the Police with officers arresting Hubbard at her nearby home address.
At the Police station, Hubbard – who works as a mobile carer – provided an evidential breathalyser reading of 111 – over 3x the legal limit of 35.
The 52-year-old’s defence solicitor, Barry Arnett, said that Hubbard was still coming to terms with the recent loss of her husband David Johns – who was suspected of being murdered in April – and that she had no inherent drinking issues, despite the high reading.
Hubbard, who has 1 previous conviction for a similar offence, was handed a 24-month disqualification from driving, a 12-month community order with 10 rehabilitation days and 120 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and £114 surcharge fee.

So the selfish vile excuse of a woman despite allegedly knowing the pain of losing someone close, drives AGAIN whilst way over the limit
Could easily have killed an innocent person and forced her allegedly pain on their family
Hope she joins her hubby sooner rather than later if she carries on, as she likely will, in the same way
Pathetic excuses from vile selfish gutter trash
Love it bloody true
In one sentence no inherent drink issues next sentence 1 previous conviction for similar offence deserves what she got. Sorry for her lost but no excuse as he had done t before.
So another repeat offender given no real punishment at all. Wonder how long it will be before she is driving while banned. Thanks again useless magistrates.

so, despite being done for this before, she tries to blag her way out of it, by using her husbands death as an excuse
thats low, even by her standards- she should have gone to jail as it is a second offence of DD and then had to do all the rest of the punishment afterwards.
How can the drunk blame the death of her husband, when she has been done for the same thing before. Scrap her car.
Someone who ‘says’ they are still so effected by the loss of a loved one, should not be so selfish as to risk another innocent family suffering the same misery if that cretin had killed a family member by being drunk behind the wheel.
Lets hope next time, for it is bound to happen again, if she has an accident it is she who joins her late hubby, not some innocent people left maimed or killed by her selfish, ignorant attitude.
It should know better than most the pain the untimely death of a loved one brings YET risks others suffering the same misery by drink driving AGAIN
let’s hope the next session she not an innocent person has a chance to be reunited with her spouse.
My condolences for the death of her husband. Sorry my dear but there’s no excuse for drunk driving.
Like drink driving will bring back her Husband, very stupid, reckless and needs to be directed to the right type of help.
There are very few drink-drivers caught who have not already got away with it numerous times. This potential killer obviously hadn’t learnt her lesson.
Just why didn’t the magistrates hand out any meaningful punishment? A 2-year ban – for a second offence – disgraceful. The chances are she’ll be back in her car next week, and drink-driving whenever she feels like it.
The ban should have been a year more at least, and a fine should have been added: the value of her car, plus £500.
Always an excuse, but not usually a valid reason for breaking the laws that apply to everyone else.
All haters on here, nothing better than a few sherbets and a wee spin in the moter. Im all up 4 it, amen me darling
And All brainless people agree with her actions
Driving off while giving the finger tells us all we need to know about this vile PoS.
