A Cowes woman who crashed her car whilst more than 3x the drink-drive limit is to be sentenced in March, less than 3 years after her previous drink-drive conviction. Natasha Cavanagh, 38, of St Andrews Street in Cowes, admitted drink driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court earlier this week (19th January). Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on 4th January Police were called to Kings Road in East Cowes after they received reports that a Range Rover had collided with numerous parked cars. The court heard how Cavanagh was attempting to flee the scene driving forwards, despite the parked vehicles blocking her path. Once they had arrived, officers approached the vehicle and noticed a bottle of Vodka on the passenger seat. When questioned, Cavanagh told Police she was at home and not behind the wheel of her car – but was too intoxicated to say where she lived. A roadside breath test returned a positive reading as did a further test at Newport Police Station. The lowest reading recorded was 130 – the legal limit is 35ug/l. The court heard how a message on Cavanagh’s phone written in capital letters told her distinctly not to drink drive and that people were coming to find her. Defending, Oscar Vincent, told the court that on the day in question, a family issue had arisen and that the 38-year-old mother of 1 had no recollection of events, but that she won’t challenge the facts of the case. Magistrates adjourned the case until 1st March 2024 when an all-options pre-sentence report is to be compiled. The 38-year-old was handed an interim driving ban. Previously convicted for drink driving back in 2021, when a reading of 129 was returned, Cavanagh will be eligible for a mandatory driving ban of at least 36 months when she is sentenced later this year.

No body was hurt! They can’t take away her Range Rover!
You clearly do not understand what law and order means. Just because nobody was hurt does not excuse law breaking. Furthermore, she happens to be a repeat offender. What if she HAD killed or seriously injured someone and what if that someone was one of your loved ones? Has the penny dropped yet?
Idiotic comment
Yes afraid they can, its “registered” and so title is with the DVLA, this is why we are just registered keepers on the V5.
Why why why ??? Stupidity in the extreme.. so lucky nobody was injured or killed . Hope the maximum sentence is made.. sick of drunk drivers ..
Another Numpty who needs banging up.
Unless the law gets tough with drink & drug drivers it will never stop
3 times over the limit is shocking behaviour.
I suppose more excuses.
You’re under the idea that the risk of sentence will stop people committing the offence. Sorry to say that people who commit offences don’t believe they will ever get caught.
Even when we had the death sentence it didn’t stop people committing murder.
The penalty especially for repeat offenders such as this individual should be a combination of a punitive fine to cause a big dent in her wealth/income along with a custodial sentence (& driving ban of at least 3 years) to give her time to reflect on her anti-social and criminal conduct. Anything short of that would amount to a smack on the wrist with a feather.
Blah blah blah
I’m willing to retry the tough sentencing option personally
Any person convicted of a repeat drink or drug driving offense should be banned from driving for life with an immediate jail sentence if subsequently found to be driving without a licence, these filth put other peoples lives and property at risk and have no morals whatsoever.
Yet another self opinionated’I’m better than everyone else’ Tart thinking she was exempt from the legal rules of the road!
Scum, lowest of the low. Hopefully she will never be insured again.
I think a spell at his Majesty’s pleasure would be in order…
Stupid b…., luckily no one was hurt, is she paying for the damage to the cars involved???
She should not be allowed to drive full stop what does it take for someone to be hurt or killed, grow up b….!
Clearly didn’t learn last time, probably won’t learn from this experience time for a stay at His Majesties Hotel for a while, only a matter of time before some innocent person gets hurt or killed
‘Cavanagh will be eligible for a mandatory driving ban of at least 36 months’ – should be eligible for prison sentence to protect public,as we see on IE regularly driving bans do nothing, many get banned 2/3 times during a ban. If didn’t learn from her last ban or this time statistically there will be another. People who drink/drug drive are like shop lifter’s,get away with it 9 x out of 10, only difference is unlikely to cause a death shoplifting!.
I would suggest this woman is a alcoholic, not excusing her ill thought out ecision to drive but anyone who is a drunk should not have a driving licence , full stop.
Her actions suggest that she is an “entitled”, repeat offender. Nothing short of a punitive fine and custodial sentence will convince her that drinking and driving is dangerous and that she must desist in future. She is a danger to other road users and herself.
2nd offence should be life ban and 1st motoring offence should carry a 1000cc unmodified vehicle power level or the lowest powered electric vehicle, a 25mph model.
She’s a public menace. I do hope someone reports her to DVLA medical. They can remove her licence so that when her ban is up, she won’t be automatically entitled to renew it without proof of long term sobriety backed up with medical evidence.
This stupid bitch needs jail time. She could have killed someone. She obviously didn’t learn her lesson first time after being caught for D&D. Not another ban, points and a fine. She’ll be laughing her stupid t*ts off if the judge gives her that!
Way too soft on this island.
life ban and 12 months inside will go a long way to fixing the issue. But as the Tories, to save money, have closed so many prisons, no chance to any of that happening. Well give it a few years and she may kill someone next time. She does keep trying.
Sentencing should also include the FULL repair costs to all the innocent other drivers vehicles. These “pissers” always come off it very lightly and cheaply.
Enough now, make these “pissers and junkies” pay for their selfish damages.
