UPDATED: A woman has been freed by fire crews this evening after becoming trapped in mud up to her waist.
The incident happened shortly after 18:00 near to Totland Pier, West Wight.
The woman was freed using specialist mud rescue equipment. Coastguard Rescue teams from Ventnor also assisted in the rescue.
The woman was transferred to a waiting land ambulance for treatment.
UPDATED @ 11:30 WEDNESDAY: The Isle of Wight Council are reminding people to observe footpath closures in the area following this incident.
The rescued woman was waist-high in the mud near to the Totland Landslip, which remains very dangerous and is currently closed for the foreseeable future.
The closures are there for a reason – your safety – please observe them and do not access the site.
