The main road between Whitwell and Ventnor has been closed to enable emergency gas works in the area this afternoon (Monday).
Whitwell Road has been closed between the junctions of St Lawrence Shute and Gills Cliff Road, with public footpaths 71 and 72 also closed.
The reason is reported to be an emergency gas escape repair.
Local traffic should be able to divert via St Lawrence Shute to bypass the closure. The official diversion is via Godshill, Whiteley Bank and Wroxall.
Southern Vectis say their Route 6 buses are unable to serve bus stops from Pine Point to Whitwell.
