Police say they will take action against anyone perpetrating any of the ‘Fatal Four’ behaviours following the conviction of drug driver Luciano Dent from Newport.
On 25th July this year, officers from the Island’s newly-established High Harm Team stopped 35-year-old Luciano Dent on Forest Road in Newport.
Dent, of South Street in Newport, provided a positive drug wipe for cannabis and was subsequently arrested and charged with drug driving.
Last week he admitted this offence at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court and was handed a 12-month driving ban. He was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 court costs, and a £48 victim surcharge.
Now, Police are reinforcing that they will take action against anyone observed to be perpetrating any of the Fatal Four behaviour of drink/drug driving, driving without a seatbelt, speeding and using a mobile phone whilst driving. These are the 4 poor driving habits that often lead to serious or fatal collisions.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“If you drive in this manner, you put your own life and the lives of other road users at serious risk. We won’t tolerate it”.

Pity they don’t put as much effort into catching burglars
They have! That’s what Luciano Dent is famously known for is burgular. A complete loser.
Should chop his hands off.
Burglars very rarely kill and maim do they? Ever seen someone mangled in a car? Not pleasant.
no but burglars leave their victims a mental wreck
Drug and drink driving is a serious crime. If they want to kill themselves, so be it, but what if they involve innocent road users. Get real.
Speeding, and there’s certainly plenty of idiots speeding on island roads. Using a mobile phone, a dangerous distraction. Selfish, idiotic people commit these crimes, all of which have the potential to take innocent lives and I’m talking about the innocents who get caught up in an accident.
Why when these 4 actions have been illegal for soiling have the IOW police only just decided to say the will have a zero tolerance!?
Surly as soon as it become illegal they should enforce the rules…
They might not tolerate it, but if they only catch one out of a hundred, words don’t mean a lot. They need to have a much bigger prevention presence. Mobile phone use while driving is rife.
We can put social pressure on these characters and let them know they are out of order
When I first moved to my current location there was a lot of senseless vandalism going on not only to local shops but peoples property and cars especially. Unbeknown to me at the time a group of males set up a vigilante type evening/late night patrol between them – it worked those responsible soon moved out of the area. I am not applauding vigilante groups but if things start getting worse in some areas not only here but the mainland also then it is something that is going to happen unless the police are more visible day and night.
Alleluia, well done police, at last, another stupid driver off the road, hope the car gets either sold/ scrapped. What an idiot If he wants to kill himself through drugs go ahead but to drive and risk hurting or killing someone else, low life.
Really??? Why when you ring them with info they do nothing ,just tell you to keep ringing ,we shouldn’t have to tolerate that !!!!
Whilst the Police say ‘they’ won’t tolerate it’, the courts won’t back up their verbal stance as now the UK has added the third world criminals to the growing number of our own ensuring that there is no room to jail any but the very worse ever again.
Hence the country is going down hill fast and with no speed camera to measure the reason nor rate of decline it will never again be a safe country to live in
The police are going to need many more colleagues if they truly want to clear the rubbish off our roads,
Police often put people into court. Then our judiciary, who love a story, let them off.
No one gets away with drug driving. It is a statutory 12 month driving ban. If only there was an online form to report all the drivers that drug drive.
But they do get away with it ,no good giving 12mth ban when already no licence/banned and piddling little fine that doesn’t create anything. And others commented that he is 1 out of 100, follow so many car’s/vans with smell of weed from them and as another said report it but nothing done.
DD, UNDERSTAND, the courts ‘can’t’ give EVERY one who deserves a prison sentence such IF the jails are filled with the worlds worst, UNLESS the person in court is WORSE than them.
Hence they let lesser crims off with fines etc.
Cure the REASON WHY they can’t jail lesser yet still deserving of prison crims and we would have had less criminals here and a better deterrent of lesser crims, knowing they may do longer sentences, but now the third world has arrived, such will never, ever again happen.
Yet still fools welcome such.
Why you keep blaming 3rd world?, It’s European 1st world countries like Albania, Romania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Hungry etc nothing to do with 3rd world who are not drug dealers and in gang’s etc.
Foreign nationals make up just under 11% of the prison population, this has fallen from a 14% in 2009.
The number of foreign nationals in the UK has increased from 7 million to 9 million since 2004.
So the proportion of foreign nationals that wind up in prison has actually fallen significantly.
The fool, in fact, is you, for believing the far-right Farageist garbage you continually spout.
Twelve month ban which he will simply ignore, £120 fine that will not be taken off his benefits, he must be pissing himself laughing at our useless magistrates.
Wonder if when released he started driving again in a mates car as I hope his car was confiscated. 12 Month ban will mean nothing to people like him, they think the are invincible and also get a kick out of abusing the law.
