Ventnor Men’s team beat Warsash 4-0 to become the winners of the Portsmouth & District LTA Winter Men’s Div 1 on Sunday at Ventnor Tennis Club.
Ventnor Men’s 1st pair of Elliot Jones and Hugh Idle played Warsash’s 2nd pair of Martin Wilkinson and Antonio Petrella in the 1st round, winning 6-0 6-4.
Ventnor Men’s 2nd pair of Elliott Rugg and Ben Brading then played Warsash’s 1st pair of Matt Pond and Antonio Mironvic. This was a closely fought match going to 3 sets, with Elliott and Ben victorious, winning 6-2 6-7 1-0, to put Ventnor 2-0 up at the halfway stage.
In the 2nd round, Ventnor’s 1st pair vanquished Warsash’s 1st pair, with Elliot and Hugh playing some outstanding tennis; both serving and volleying well, they beat their opponents 6-3 6-4.
In the contest between Ventnor’s 2nd pair against Warsash’s 2nd pair, Elliott and Ben had another close game, playing some solid tennis and were again victorious, winning 7-6 6-4.

Ventnor have never topped Div 1 before. Over the past 10 years, Warsash have won 8 times, only losing to Chichester and Lee-on-Solent.
Ventnor now go on to play the Solent Cup, playing the winners of the Apsley League ( Southampton).
Ventnor have won the Solent Cup before but with the ladies team back in 2016, with Heidi Drew, Anita Pearce, Rosie Rodly and Linda Jones. On that occasion, Ventnor took on the might of Winchester Tennis Club.
