A Ventnor man has been banned from the town’s Tesco Express and ordered to pay compensation of £68.30 after admitting 4 counts of theft from a shop. Nino Cavanagh, 30, of Trinity Road in Ventnor, admitted 4x theft from a shop when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (9th February). Lauren Stone, prosecutor, told the court that Cavanagh targetted the High Street shop on 4 occasions between 1st January and 21st January 2024. Firstly, on New Year’s Day, the 30-year-old stole 2x Kronenburg crates worth £25.30. Then, just over 2 weeks later on 17th January, he entered the store once again and stole Henry Weston Cider worth £33. Later on in the month, on 21st January, Cavanagh entered the store again and stole 2 bottles of Henry Weston. He did the same just a few hours later. Nino Cavanagh – a known Island criminal – was identified on CCTV. Cavanagh has a total of 18 theft offences on his record with a total of 37 convictions for 74 offences, including affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Defending, Nicholas Muir told the court that Cavanagh took all the booze to drink himself and that he admits he makes stupid decisions when he has been drinking. Addressing Magistrates himself, Cavanagh said that he was ‘slowly getting himself back on his feet’ and that he was now ‘on a better track’. Magistrates ordered Cavanagh pay a £40 fine and a £16 surcharge fee. He was also ordered to pay compensation of £68.30. Cavanagh has been banned from Tesco Express.

Every little extra helps
All shops should refuse this piece of s… entry so it has to rely on other people to shop for it. See how many friends this low life has then.
£40 fine? That works out at a fine of about £1 per bottle or can, if not less than that. It’s almost like a criminal line of credit, interest free if you don’t get caught, or a small premium to pay if you do.
On a better track lol until next time . Put him in the stocks for a week
Smash his ankles with a sledge hammer.
This absolute scumbag , who has been caught for numerous thefts and been terrorising people in the Ventnor area with violent assaults , has yet again been let off far to leniently !! .. When will the Justice System grow some balls and deal with these regular offenders with the severity they deserve??
SHAME on the Justice System for yet again letting the Public down !!
With a CV like that he’ll soon be an MP.
Or a Baroness. Lol
This lazy benefit scrounging low life will never be on the right track. So I guess his legal aid representative can only ever state, he’s on a better track. 74 offences & counting at the age of 30. Equates to 5 offences a year since turning 16. Never had a job & will never want one. What’s the point of its existence.
