Police have launched an investigation into a series of break-ins and thefts involving coaches at Fort Street car park in Sandown.
Over the past week, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has received no fewer than 4 reports of multiple vehicles being broken into at the Isle of Wight Council-owned car park.
Island Echo understands that coach drivers, visiting the Island with holidaymakers, have arrived at their vehicle in the morning to discover the damage.
In some instances, windows have been smashed, water poured over the seats, and personal belongings have been stolen.
It’s understood that drivers are now parking in Shanklin to avoid the troublesome area.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that no arrests have been made in relation to these incidents, but enquiries are ongoing.
A spokesperson for the force has said:
“Our Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out additional patrols in the area in the coming days. Anyone with any concerns can speak to one of these officers if they need advice or have information that could assist us.
“Additionally, if you have any other information which may assist in our investigation, including any dash cam, doorbell camera, or CCTV footage from the area, please contact us on 101 and quote incident number 44250478097”.

Just a thought.
Probably may have been best to say that the coaches are parking elsewhere rather letting the vandals know they are parking Shanklin?
Islandwide CCTV is the answer, also why not give a
person a Job and man these car parks.
IW Council make enough money with parking charges
to pay the salary of an employee or two.
there we go, didn’t take long. Blame it on the council. If you woke up with a pimple on your a4se you’d probably blame the council.
Sandown is/has turned into the chappies place!! Such a shame as it could/should be so nice. Beautiful sandy beach and SO much tourism potential but it’s just gone to waste. Shanklin is beautiful and such a different vibe. It seems quite crazy that 2 towns so close together can be so different!!
What a thoughtless and inaccurate thing to say. I believe that Sandown is unsupported in so many ways by IOW Council and yet the beach is far superior to Shanklin, as are most of the cafes.
At least they don’t have too far to look for who is most likely responsible for this what with what else is in Fort street!
Sadly the feral youth of today.
PoPo doing a fantastic again ..
Fort street, why am i not surprised
