USS Theodore Roosevelt has arrived off the coast of the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Sunday) at the start of a 5-day visit to Portsmouth.
As previously reported the US Navy aircraft carrier, one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world, will be on clear view to Islanders for 5 days as it’s too big to enter Portsmouth Harbour.
Island Echo readers shared their photographs via Twitter as the 1092ft long vessel made its way past Shanklin and Sandown, around Bembridge and up the Solent to Gosport.
Thanks to Jeff Crossley-Brook for this head-on shot of the gigantic carrier and thanks to Terry Lemmon for the above shot showing a closer photo of the aircraft on the flight deck.
Islanders can get a great view of the USS Theodore Roosevelt from vantage points such as Ryde Pier.
