Bomb disposal teams from the mainland are en-route to Cowes this afternoon after an unexploded shell was discovered at a local business.
Police are currently in attendance at Isle of Wight Aggregates on Arctic Road in the town after the ordinance was discovered shortly after 15:00.
Officers from the Hampshire Constabulary Marine Policing Unit are patrolling the River Medina, keeping vessels a safe distance away from the scene.
Cowes was subjected to heavy bombing during World War II, with several unexploded devices having been found in the past.
