rtcfirestockUPDATED: Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews are currently attending an RTC in Yarmouth following a collision causing the occupants to be trapped within the vehicles. 

Fire crews were called to River Road in Yarmouth at 19.15 this evening (Thursday) and they are currently still at the scene.

Reports suggest two occupants were trapped from two separate cars. Four children were also involved within the incident, however they were not trapped.

The road is closed and the Route 7 is currently being diverted from Yarmouth via Wilmingham Lane onto Middle Road, Afton Road then re-join the normal route.

UPDATES @ 21.00 – Fire and Rescue crews from Newport, Yarmouth and Freshwater attended the scene to cut free two women from their vehicles. The crews have since returned to station.

The extent of injuries is still unknown at present.

The road appears to be still blocked.

UPDATES @ 21.20 – The two women were transferred to St Mary’s Hospital. The four children involved were also taken to hospital even though it’s understood that the children were free by the time emergency services had arrived.

Their conditions would be assessed at the Hospital.

UPDATES @ 21.56 – Due to Yarmouth Bridge still being closed, the route 7 is still on diversion (from Yarmouth via Wilmingham Lane onto Middle Road, Afton Road then re-join the normal route).

UPDATES @ 22.35 – The two women and four children have been assessed at the Hospital this evening and were due to be discharged tonight. Island Echo understands that the occupants were shaken up and had encountered some minor injuries.

River Road, Yarmouth has just reopened. Route 7 will revert to normal route.
