A trailer carrying locally grown cabbages has overturned in Rookley this afternoon (Monday), destroying a garden wall and pulling down a telephone line.
Police were called to the scene on Main Road, Rookley at around 12:30 after a Staples trailer unit, being towed by a tractor, overturned outside the Old School House.
The unusual incident has led to a trailer load of freshly picked cabbages spilling out across the pavement and into local resident’s front gardens.
The lightweight trailer, which has now been righted, has destroyed a stone wall and has made contact with a telegraph pole, bringing down a telephone line across the road.
The cabbages are being transferred into a second trailer.
The road remains open under Police direction and engineers from Southern and Scottish Energy are on the scene making the fallen cable safe and ascertaining any further damage.
A Staples fruit and veg lorry was also involved in a road traffic incident in neighbouring Godshill last week, when the trailer unit made contact with a woman and her child’s buggy on the pavement.
