Sandown Town Council has recognised the International Day of Disabled Persons (3rd December) by increasing car parking capacity at The Broadway Centre for disabled people, alongside the installation of fully accessible toilets and a hearing loop system within a fully accessible community centre.
Town Mayor Gary Young said:
“Sandown Town Council are committed to improving the accessibility of our services, within the resources we have available, at every opportunity, and the investments we have made reflect the commitment we have”.
Cllr Paul Brading added:
“We are looking at all our services, including those at the Broadway Centre, to ensure inclusivity and equality, and are working with community groups – many of which use the Centre – to improve and increase our accessibility, for the benefit of the local community”.
The Centre has been proactive in working with groups involving disabled and vulnerable people, and, amongst a number of projects, is prioritising the provision of a defibrillator at the Centre in 2020.
Cllr Young concluded:
“We are working with local health providers to improve the accessibility of our Car Park, and the provision of additional accessible spaces is an indication of this commitment”.
