Three people escaped injury yesterday evening (Saturday) when a fire broke out in the engine bay of the boat they were travelling on in the middle of The Solent.
HM Coastguard received a Mayday call shortly after 19:30 reporting a fire on board ‘About Time’, a 33ft motor cruiser, just off of Hurst Point.
Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat was scrambled to the scene to assist the stricken boat before it was towed in towards Yarmouth Harbour, where three pumping appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service remained on standby.
Crews from Newport, Yarmouth and Freshwater attended the incident, however the fire was out upon arrival. Safety checks were carried out by fire officers, before all three crews left the scene at 20:50.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service assessed the three sailors for any injuries.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team also attended the dockside at Yarmouth Harbour.
