Festival goers from across the country are descending on the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Thursday) as the Isle of Wight Festival gets underway for 2017.
Music lovers are in high spirits are they cross the Solent and make they way to the festival site in Newport for what is set to be a weekend crammed full of some of the hottest acts around including David Guetta, Bastille, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and The Vamps. Those lucky enough to be attending the first major festival of the year can also expect legendary performances from the likes of Rod Stewart, Kaiser Chiefs and Arcade Fire.
The campsite opened at 12 noon to welcome the first crowds vying to get the best spot on site ahead of Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields opening up later on today. The first acts will begin at 18:00.
Much like in 2016, the crowds don’t appear to have been as strong and constant as in previous years, but even more festival fans are set to arrive on the Island tomorrow.
Delays are being kept to a minimum, however if you are not travelling to the Festival site you are advised to find an alternative route into and around Newport. Traffic restrictions are in place – details of which can be found here.
