UPDATED: Police have this evening (Saturday) closed the main road between Thorness and Northwood following a serious road traffic incident.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near to Thorness Bay Holiday Park shortly before 17:30, where it is understood a motorist suffered a medical episode at the wheel resulting in a collision with a parked vehicle.
A member of the public gave CPR to the driver, who is believed to be female.
The Hampshire Constabulary Collision Investigation Unit from the mainland are now at the scene, indicating a serious life-threatening injury or a death.
The road is closed between Whitehouse Road and Rolls Hill whilst investigations take place into the incident and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
UPDATE @ 22:35 – Little Whitehouse Road remains closed tonight with investigators still on scene.
A hard road closure has been put in place by Island Roads at the junction with Main Road, Porchfield and Whitehouse Road and at Rolls Hill.
UPDATE @ 23:45 – The road has now reopened in both directions following a 6-hour closure.
One female was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in a ‘critical condition’.
Hampshire Constabulary are currently unable to provide any further details regarding the incident.
UPDATE MONDAY @ 09:25 – Saturday’s incident on Little Whitehouse Road has been recorded as a serious injury by Hampshire Constabulary.
It has been confirmed that a 47-year-old woman from Shanklin, driving a Peugeot 106 which collided with a Renault Capture, remains in hospital today (Monday) after being rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in a critical condition.
The 62-year-old male driver of the Renault Capture has escaped injury.
Island Echo understands the 47-year-old casualty is due to be transferred to a mainland hospital.
