Letter to the editor – 13th February
“Island roads decision to put barricade across the Mall is causing chaos, anger and is downright dangerous.
“Cars were using it to get through as New Road is closed which is perfectly reasonable considering the 5 mile alternative route.
“Emergency vehicles have no access and residents have been further inconvenienced due to lack of bus service. Those of us who work in Sandown are being penalised unnecessarily.
“The only thing for them to do would be to open road and have calming system to stop it being used as a rat run.”
Angry resident,

More controlling of the people because they can
I completely agree with you. I’m a Brading resident who works in Shanklin. It has been a nightmare. Fortunately for me, the train is the only sensible way for me to get to work – but it has been quite unreliable. I’m lucky that I do have that option, not everyone is able to do so.
And on top of that, you cannot post a letter in Brading as Royal Mail have taped up ALL the postboxes!! Apparently Royal Mail post collectors are not able to drive around the diversions!!
This could and will probably cost someone’s life. Ambulance crews have a hard enough job negotiating our roads without Island Roads making the job harder.
More ineptitude by Island Road’s 1 cell brainers.
Read Island Council, as they control everything that Island Roads is allowed to do, especially with 50% of their workload cut by The Isle of Wight Council…, ask anyone., not good.
I parked my car and walked down there last Tuesday evening as I live in Adgestone and needed to get to the Methodist Church. It was so dangerous walking along a road without pavements and inadequate lighting as well as cars with frustrated drivers trying to get through then turn around and go back. I asked Island roads to put me through to the actual person who made the decision. They couldn’t or wouldn’t name anyone, said there was a committee that met to discussed these issues, then said the police closed it for safety reasons after complaints from residents. They are making it up as they go along!! Someone needs to get a grip and open the road NOW. And Firestone Copse as well by the sound of it. There must be someone out there with some common sense and authority!!!
