THE CURTAIN LIFTS! ISLAND THEATRE GETS BACK ON STAGE

The Isle of Wight’s amateur dramatics are back in the business as coronavirus restrictions lift, with preparations for performances beginning to be made by several Island theatres.

The Apollo Theatre Players – based at the Apollo Theatre in Pyle Street, Newport – have been gearing up for the restart of the delayed theatre season by starting rehearsals for A London Affair, which is set to take place in July.

A London Affair consists of 3 plays (Marble Arch, Lunch Hour, and Knightsbridge) by the creator of the well-known character Horace Rumpole and former barrister, the late John Mortimer.

Marble Arch is the story of an ageing film star who believes that her rich lover has died in her bathroom, and it’s up to her to dispose of the body. Lunch Hour tells the story of a man and a woman who attempt to have an affair during their lunch hour, but are continually interrupted.

Knightsbridge deals with the misunderstandings and confusion that arise when Francesca’s fiance discovers that her mother has been putting up a number of dubious advertisements around Knightsbridge.  What can she mean by ‘ladies’ double-fronted chest’?

Performances will be held between the 2nd and 10th July, and booking will be available from the 21st June via the theatre’s website. Also heading to the Apollo is Graham Pountney’s visiting show After All These Years on the 16th and 17th July.

Elsewhere on the Island, Bembridge Little Theatre Company will host Full Circle – a comedy by Janet Shaw. Only 30 seats are available for these performances between the 25th June and the 27th June.
