A teenager who was stopped after he was seen pulling a wheelie whilst going through a red light, was under the influence of cannabis a court has heard.
Alfie Hayles, 19, of Lincoln Close in Bembridge, admitted a single court of drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Friday).
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, told the court that on the 26th September, Hayles was seen pulling a wheelie through a red light in Newport.
Police activated their lights and pulled the teen over where a small amount of cannabis was found in Hayles’ possession.
Subsequently, a roadside drugs wipe was conducted in which a positive reading for cannabis was returned.
Blood tests taken at Newport Police Station confirmed the presence of cannabis in his system. The court heard how Hayles wasn’t interviews by Police.
Defending the 19-year-old, Michael McGoldrick, told the court that his client accepts that he pulled a wheelie but that he disputes the light was red when he went through. He also added that Hayles had smoked cannabis around 16 hours before the incident.
Magistrates handed the kitchen worker a 12-month driving ban. He was fined £400 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £160 surcharge fee.
Cameras above all traffic lights and islandwide CCTV
will solve any disputes of persons jumping red lights.

He is working and the others are on benefits. another reason for staying on benefits eh?
that’s why a previous criminal in these pages has amassed £2700 in fines only having to pay back £5 a week.
Fines are related to income/ability to pay…
