UPDATED: A 19-year-old teenager has this afternoon (Wednesday) been airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport after falling down steps at Compton Beach near Freshwater.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service rushed to the scene on Military Road shortly before 14:45 after receiving reports that the female had fallen on the wooden steps heading down to the beach at Compton car park.
Rescue teams performed a cliff-side rescue before the assistance of Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent was requested, airlifting the patient to St Mary’s Hospital.
This incident comes almost 24hrs after a double emergency in the Freshwater area.
UPDATE THURSDAY: The 19-year-old female, who has not been named, was believed to have suffered suspected spinal and head injuries in the fall, however was discharged from hospital care yesterday evening (Wednesday).
