A teenager has pleaded guilty to burgling a residential garage in Newport and breaching a child abduction warning. Roobin Jones, aged 19, broke into the garage – which was attached to a house in Chatfield Lodge – in the early hours of Friday 10th November this year. A motorcycle helmet was stolen from within, and forensic enquiries at the scene identified Jones as the person responsible for breaking into the garage. Appearing at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 6th December, Jones admitted the burglary. He also admitted to 2 counts of keeping away a child in care without lawful authority. On 23rd November this year, Jones had been served a Child Abduction Warning Notice (CAWN) prohibiting him from having any contact with a vulnerable 17-year-old child on the Island. Despite the CAWN being in place, police determined that Jones had been in the company of the child on 25th November and 1st December. Jones, of Culver Parade in Sandown, was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 17th January 2024 for sentencing. He will also be sentenced on this date for taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without a licence and driving without insurance after he stole a car in Cothey Way, Ryde, on 22nd September this year.
