Islanders and those further afield have come out in support of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance after it was revealed over the weekend that not everyone supports their life-saving work…
A message from an undisclosed individual demanded that the charity explains why the helicopter was flying at 1,750ft whilst going from St Mary’s Hospital to Southampton General Hospital at 04:00 in the morning. The individual said it was ‘inconsiderate’ and that they will no longer be donating to the cause.
Taking to social media, the charity apologised that the helicopter wakes people up at night but said that it is not their intention to disrupt people’s evenings – it is to save someone’s life.
The situation has blown up on Twitter with over 12,000 favourites and 1,200 retweets of the original tweet, demonstrating the support for the life-saving charity based out of Thruxton. Words of support have been evident across all social platforms since Saturday.
A spokesperson for the charity said:
“We always try our best to be there for the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, but messages like this, really affect our teams morale.
“We are genuinely overwhelmed by your kind replies. Sadly this isn’t the first time we’ve had a complaint like this and it probably won’t be our last, but it’s reassuring to know you are there for us. Thank you for all your support”.
What a nasty individual, I hope they never need the Air Ambulance.
I hope they do.
Hope you never or someone you love need these wonderful people! What’s wrong with you??
Amazing job those people do,we the country surport all air ambulances.THANK YOU.
priceless – lets hope the individual that complained gets the call from the ambulance service that the helicopter cannot come to assist them in their or their families hour of need – due to the complaint that was made about night time flying levels.
some people are suspected of being stupid – this individual has opened their mouth and removed all doubt.
Firstly it’s the individual who complained that are inconsiderate. Secondly one day it could be them or one of their family members who require this excellent service in an emergency.(God forbid) A service like this needs praise and support not unnecessary complaints.
I do hope they don’t need the Air Ambulance for themselves or their loved ones. Bet they wouldn’t complain about the PNAS flying even lower, also doing a vital job, for which we should all be grateful too.
Name and shame this inconsiderate individual.
The amount of money it takes to keep this craft up for us is testament enough that it’s not a joy ride.
Hope this person never has to use their services then they are one of the best services for the island and beyond and would be lost without them x
What sort ofidiot would complain about a life-saving service? I hope that they never need that service; and do they complain about ambulances and fire engines waking them up or blocking roads. For the record, they are welcome to hover above our house for as long as trhey like, as often as they like.
I would never mind hearing the air ambulance during the night, saving someones life is far more important than being woken up, you never know if you might need them yourself one day, they do a marvelous job, they should never recieve negative comments,
Probably someone from Brighstone 😉
How exactly would a helicopter flying from St Mary’s Newport to Southampton possibly be flying over Brightstone. Clearly this was someone in the Newport/Cowes corridor
I bet this ”undisclosed individual” wouldn’t be whinging about being woken up if the emergency involved them or one of their family? Get some priorities and principles and have some thoughts for others and for those who where involved in the incident.
Everyone is very quiet on here tonight. No comments on any story? With regard to this, I hope the idiot that complained never requires the servuce. Quite incredible someone would complain about the lifesaving and astounding work the IOWAA carry out.
They should have ignored the complaint. This person should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
The person who made the complaint wants to grow up. and I love the child like comment “that they will no longer be donating to the cause” well how scary is that. Air Ambulance your doing a great job “crack on”
This service is so valuable to the island there all hero’s and we must support them day or night so when they come to the rescue of this individual lets hope they put their hands in their pockets deep
Selfish ignorant person. Hope you or yours never need it!?
Let’s hope they never need the assistance of the air ambulance crew? Keep up the amazing work guys! Just one punny human, got nothing better to do with their time? Happy Christmas to all of you who risk your lives every single day XX
Hope they never need these wonderful people, hang your head in shame
Anonymous… Says it all really. Another brave keyboard warrior. Keep up the great work that you do and ignore such pettiness.
Legal minimum height is 500 ft.
Go and hover over their house at 501 feet!
