A Newport man seen stumbling and falling over numerous times whilst drunkenly walking through the town centre has been fined £80.
Terence Perkins, of Barton Road in Newport, appeared before Magistrates earlier this week (1st October) charged with drunk and disorderly in a public place and obstruct a constable in the execution of their duty. The 39-year-old – who has a total of 20 convictions for 36 offences – admitted both offences at the first opportunity.
Prosecuting, Lauren McConnell, told the court that on the morning of the 13th September, Police were made aware of 2 men acting in a drunkenly manner in Newport Town Centre. Members of. The public had seen Perkins stumbling and falling over numerous times.
Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the scene and caught up with Perkins outside Santander on Pyle Street. Perkins, in a visibly drunken state, became aggressive towards the officers, who believed he was displaying behaviour that suggested he wanted to fight them.
Both men were arrested and taken to Newport Police Station.
A dog was involved in the incident, however Perkins was not charged with any animal-related offences.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick, told the court that his client has a recognised alcohol issue but that we was making progress and ‘knuckling down’ with the probation service.
Magistrates fined Perkins £80 and ordered he pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge fee.

Bloody fair isn’t it? This waste of space piece of scum getting paid so much in free hand outs by DWP, that he can get so pissed he can’t stand up, but they can stop the heating allowance of those who have worked and paid in all their working lives. They need to get some some priorities and principles sorted out. It’s not us causing the Government’s ”black hole” it’s the one’s taking the piss out of the system, who no one has the balls to question.
I’ve got the balls to ask questions, like where does it say this guy gets money from DWP? And how do we know that all those who previously got the heating allowance ‘worked and paid all their lives’? Surely some of them claimed benefits and did nothing for a living?
