Don’t panic – the red sky isn’t a sign that the end of the world is nigh… it is actually dust from the Sahara desert being blown towards the United Kingdom.
Island Echo readers have been highlighting the unusual hues of the sky both last night and this morning. Anyone looking out their windows will see a strong red tinge to the sky, with clouds rolling in to bring a similar feeling as to when it is about to snow.
The Met Office have confirmed that Storm Ophelia has drawn Saharan dust north, making the sun appear red. It is also thought that smoke from the raging fires in Iberia may be contributing.
Although the Isle of Wight is set to escape the brunt of the former Hurricane the outer bands of cloud are now rolling overhead.
