Police have this afternoon cordoned off an area of a town square in Ryde after a man was discovered in a serious, life-threatening condition.
The male, believed to be aged in his 30s, has been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport under Police escort after he was discovered slumped over a bench outside the Natwest bank in St Thomas’ Square.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around midday after staff from The Crown pub spotted the man perched in a strange way on the bench outside the bar window. Witnesses have described the man, believed to be homeless, as being yellow in colour with fluid coming from his mouth and nose with a weakening pulse.
Island Echo understands the individual has been sleeping rough on the streets of Ryde after coming out of prison.
The bank and surrounding streets remain open this afternoon while investigations take place into the cause of the incident.
