The Beef & Berry Shop in Shorwell, which began as a Christmas pop-up before becoming a beloved local food outlet, has announced it will close its doors for good on Sunday (29th June).
The local store, based at Stone Place Farm on Farriers Way, has been operated by a team of 4 Shorwell residents, led by Abbie Morris. It has offered a wide range of Isle of Wight produce, including home-reared beef, local potatoes, seasonal vegetables, dairy products, fresh bread, honey, and homemade jams.
The shop first opened as ‘Abbie’s Pop-Up Fruit & Veg Shop’ during Christmas 2022 and returned in 2023 due to high demand. It later evolved into The Beef & Berry Shop, operating year-round and earning a reputation for quality and friendly service.
All beef sold at the shop came directly from Stone Place Farm, where livestock were grass-fed and raised on locally grown maize silage and grain.
But sadly, it has been announced that the time has come to shut up shop.
A sign outside states:
“Sadly, we have made the decision to close the shop. Our last day will be Sunday June 29th open until 19:00.
“We couldn’t have stayed open as long as we did without all your support. A big and heartfelt thank you to all our lovely customers!”

News of the closure has prompted disappointment among locals, many of whom have supported the venture since its inception.
The shop will remain open until 19:00 on Sunday.

Why can’t nothing continue. Years ago professions lasted a long time . Now noone has the ability to commit themselves long term.
Double negatives are killing everything, that’s why.
Sadly there won’t be many businesses left the way
things are going.
