Parts of Newport Bus Station have been cordoned off tonight (Christmas Eve) as Police launch an investigation into what is understood to be a serious assault. Within the past hour Police and paramedics have attended to an injured person within the precinct of the bus station off South Street. It’s understood at least 1 person has since been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment. The seriousness of the incident – understood to be an altercation involving several people – has led to Police erecting a cordon around a pavement area and a double decker bus, just outside the station’s main offices. As Christmas Day fast approaches officers are continuing their investigations. It’s thought arrests have been made with individuals set to spend Christmas night in the cells. UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Police have confirmed that 3 men have been arrested, questioned and bailed after 2 people were seriously assaulted.
