The man responsible for the death of 10-year-old Evey Staley will not have his sentenced reconsidered, the Court of Appeal has today (Wednesday) ruled.
33-year-old Robert Blakley from Sandown was sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing the death of innocent Evey Staley when the car he was driving ploughed into the Staley family’s car in Northwood in 2012.
Blakley was unfit to drive through drink and drugs and admitted causing death by careless driving.
At the hearing in London this morning, it was decided that Blakley could not appeal his sentence and will not be able to appeal in the future, meaning he must complete his given sentence, although it is expected that he will serve only 5-6 years before being released on probation.
Speaking after today’s hearing at the Old Bailey, senior investigating officer Sergeant Rob Heard said:
“We are pleased with the outcome today and that the Staley family has been spared from further distress.
“Additionally, this highlights the consequences people could face if they decide to drive impaired. The simple truth is this: drinking or taking drugs and getting behind the wheel devastates lives.”
