A woman previously banned for drink driving has now been sentenced for drug driving on the Isle of Wight, after she was stopped by police in Ryde.
Tammy Soper, 42, from Somerset Road in Ryde, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court last week (28th November) for sentencing having previously admitted drug driving and driving without an MOT.
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards told the court that police stopped Soper at around 16:30 on 8th March, after the Nissan Primastar she was driving on Ryde Esplanade was flagged as having no valid MOT.
Officers suspected Soper had been drinking, but while a breath test showed she was under the legal alcohol limit, a roadside drugs wipe test returned a positive result.
At Newport Police Station, a blood test confirmed the presence of benzoylecgonine (BZE) – the cocaine metabolite – in her system.
Those inside the courtroom heard how Soper already had a conviction from 2022 for failing to provide a specimen. She was also handed a 3-year driving disqualification in May for a separate drink-driving offence which took place after the March drug-driving incident.
Defending Nick Muir, told the court that Soper didn’t know the vehicle was without MOT and that there was no suggestion of any bad driving.
Magistrates handed the 42-year-old a 36-month driving ban and ordered she pay costs of £85.

OMG why do most of us pay for tax, insurance, Mot if she thinks it’s ok to drive without Mot etc and drugged up, I’m so very tired of the bullshit sentences how much was the fine £85 that is actually taking the p…
she will still drive even though she’s banned for 36months. Absolutely no respect for the law whatsoever. Where is the deterrent? Oh hang on there is none? Pathetic
There are no deterrents in this country.
We need prisons for drink and drug drivers.
Pity her surname isn’t Sober lmao
