A man from Ryde, who was in possession of multiple indecent images of children, has seen his case sent to the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
Gareth Maydew, 49, of Garfield Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to 1 count of possession of an indecent photograph of a child and 2 counts of making an indecent photograph of a child.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that in January 2021 2 indecent images were uploaded to the internet. The images were flagged as explicit and after help locating the IP address of the account that uploaded them from his internet provider, it was traced back to Maydew. One of the images was of the most serious nature – involving a child as young as 1-year-old.
Then, in April of that year, Police attended Maydew’s address and arrested him finding 2 devices with access and storage of more indecent images. In an interview, Maydew admitted the offences.
For Maydew, Oscar Vincent, defending, said that Maydew was in possession of a very low number of images and that following clear admission to Police officers, he showed remorse for his actions. He also added that Maydew was suffering from a mental health disorder at the time.
Due to the nature of the offences, the case was sent to the Isle of Wight Crown Court and is to be heard on 14th November. A pre-sentence report is to be compiled by that time.
The 49-year-old was also ordered to sign onto the Sex Offenders Register at Newport Police Station within 3 days of the hearing.

guess he must be at his home address and not locked up – more fool him – one year olds, seriously – mental health issues – yep the understatement of the year – he had the option of not being a nonce, however, he has chosen that path and now must accept the consequences, which will haunt him until he is dead.
Unfortunately I don’t think he will once a perverted scumbag always a perverted scumbag….
If he gets a prison sentence he will be with like for like , all perverted scumbags together ..

exactly – miss sensible – once caught like this, he should simply have been taken to court, tried and then taken out back and shot.
I’m fed up with our courts issuing non-custodial sentences to these sub-human perverts. They fail to appreciate the enormous damage victims suffer. This guy is no different to all the other nonces they keep letting off. Seriously, the only fitting sentence is castration and a very long prison sentence. Wake up courts!!
