Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club celebrated another incredibly successful year of tennis for the Island at the annual Portsmouth & District presentation awards ceremony.
Ryde Lawn 1st Ladies team dominated both the Summer and Winter leagues, winning 15 out of 16 matches. As a consequence of this winning streak, they won both the Winter 2023-24 and Summer 2024 divisions.
The ladies team consisted of 5 core players with matches against teams on the South Coast (home and away) and on an array of surfaces, including grass, astro and hard courts.
After 2 hugely triumphant seasons in the Portsmouth & District tennis league, the joint captains Emma-Jane Dyer and Emma Wheeler had something extra to celebrate by receiving the prestigious Captains of the Year award at the recent awards evening held in Portsmouth.
There are over 150 individual captains across the Portsmouth & District leagues so winning this award is extremely exciting for the club as it is the first time Ryde Lawn have ever won it. Both Emmas have captained the team for 7 years.
The new season has already started and the ladies are hoping their success continues into the next year.
