Ryde C tightened their grip on Division 1 with another emphatic victory as the season moves towards its conclusion.
League leaders Ryde C made short work of Havenstreet A, recording a 10-0 win to strengthen their position at the top. Havenstreet’s 15-year-old Jye Lock came closest to taking a point, pushing Joe Chapman to 5 sets before narrowly missing out.

Ryde Rising Stars stunned leaders Newport Vics A in the match of the week as results shook up the top of the table.

The clash between Newport Vics A and 2nd-placed Ryde Rising Stars proved a completely different contest to their earlier meeting, which Newport had won 10-0. This time, Rising Stars claimed a 6-4 victory.
Fourteen-year-old Thane Taylor was unbeaten and named player of the match, while 13-year-old Theo Lewis also impressed, losing only to Rob Warren in a 5-set contest. Both youngsters defeated Barry Joyce, who tops the averages and had previously lost just 2 matches all season.

Ryde Rogues produced a surprise 7-3 win over 3rd-placed Newport Vics B. Peter Clarke was unbeaten for Ryde, while substitute Shane Cates added 2 wins. Christopher Firth was Newport’s best performer with 2 victories, but Ryde sealed the result comfortably in the doubles.
Elsewhere, Ryde Retailers and Ryde Rovers both secured solid wins to improve their league positions.

Lower-placed sides enjoyed success as Ryde Raiders and Wroxall Warriors C both recorded important wins.
Bottom side Wroxall Warriors C claimed a 6-4 victory over Ryde Raiders, with cadet players Joshua Helyer and Aimee Waddell producing strong performances.
Ryde Raiders responded in their 2nd fixture of the week with a 6-4 win against Shorwell Saints. Kevin Fraser was unbeaten and player of the match, while Charlotte Banks and Martin Shuttle added 1 win each.
Cowes Baptists strengthened their position near the top with a 7-3 win over Newport Vics C. Wroxall Warriors B also recorded a 7-3 victory against Wroxall Warriors C, while leaders Wroxall Warriors A continued their strong form with an 8-2 win over Ryde Odd Balls. Shorwell Saviours defeated Wroxall Lizards 7-3.

NEWPORT VICS TABLE TENNIS CLUB – LOOKING FOR NEW PLAYERS
Newport Vics are inviting new players of all standards to join their weekly practice sessions.
The club, one of the oldest on the Island, currently runs 3 teams in the IWTTA Winter League and is looking to welcome new players ahead of next season.
Sessions take place every Wednesday from 8th April through to October, running from 7pm to 9pm at The Pavilion, Victoria Recreation Ground, Newport (PO30 5AH). Bats and balls are provided, with the 1st session free. Subsequent sessions cost £4 for adults and £2 for under 16s, who must be accompanied by an adult.
Whether playing socially or aiming to join a league team, players can expect a friendly welcome.
