A crash at the height of rush hour has led to the closure of one of the main roads into Newport this morning (Monday).
Police, paramedics and fire crews are currently on scene at Long Lane, which has been closed in both directions – and is expected to remain closed ‘for the foreseeable’.
Island Echo is told that the crash has involved a truck and a car, and a third vehicle.
The road closure is in force between Staplers Road and Robin Hill Roundabout, with the crash located in the middle between Brickfield Cottage and Standen Cottage.
Southern Vectis is advising that all Route 8 and 68 buses are diverting via Briddlesford Road and Whiterails Road until further notice.
UPDATE @ 10:12 – Police have confirmed they are seeking a third vehicle in relation to the crash, which failed to stop.
Recovery of the vehicles is underway with Long Lane expected to reopen in due course.
