RUSH HOUR CLOSURE AFTER SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION

iwambulanceserviceUPDATED: A main road in and out of Ryde has been closed during this evening’s rush hour (Thursday) following a single vehicle collision.

Police have closed Ashey Road, Ryde in both directions between Smallbrook Lane and Deacons Lane following a crash involving a single car near to the Ponda Rosa.

Island Echo understands the vehicle, a red Peugeot 206, has spun and come to rest in a hedge, colliding with a telegraph pole.

Engineers from Southern and Scottish Energy have been called to the incident to deal with exposed wires.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance, however the occupants of the vehicle are not believed to be seriously injured.

UPDATE @ 17:45 – The road remains closed in both directions as engineers work to make the telegraph pole safe.

Island Roads have been called to assist with the road closure.

Traffic is reported to be heavy in the area.

UPDATE @ 19:30 – Ashey Road has reopened in both directions.
