Roulette can look like a simple game on the surface. It is a wheel that features numbered pockets in which the ball can land. The player’s job is to try and accurately predict where that ball winds up. There is not much else to it, is there? While it looks simple, there are a number of different aspects and steps that need to be taken to maximize the chances of a winning outcome. Although a game of chance, there are certain things that a player can do that can help improve those chances.
Know about the different types of bets available
At its simplest, the aim of roulette is to try and predict where the ball lands. Players can look to do this in a variety of different ways, with a range of bets available to place on the table. Players can either look to go with the inside of the betting table or they can go on the outside. The inside betting table is all about the numbered pockets, while the outside is the different types of side bets that are usually very popular due to the odds that they provide. These include betting on the colour of the pocket, whether the number will be odd or even, or if they will appear among a certain grouping. The table layout is typically similar regardless of the type of roulette variant being played. The numbers will be arranged in twelve columns of three numbers, thus creating a total of three rows across the table. They will be in number order, going down the column – 1, 2, 3, to the bottom and then 4 to the right of 1, and down for 5 and 6, and so on. The single ‘0’ in European Roulette and double ‘00’ will appear to the side of the columns of numbers.
What are the different bets in roulette?
As mentioned, there are inside bets and outside bets available to consider when playing the game, with all variants of live roulette typically using these as their main options. The inside bets consist of the numbers and require players to do the following:
- Straight Up: This bet relates to betting on the single number that they believe the ball will land.
- Split Bet: A split bet is where players pick two numbers in which they feel the ball can land.
- Street Bet: This refers to when a bet is made on a vertical line that separates the inside and outside betting areas.
- Six Line Bet: Players can place a six line bet by placing their chip on the vertical and horizontal lines between the two betting areas.
- Corner Bet: A corner bet is in relation to betting on a group of numbers, with the chip touching the corner of four numbers in one go.
The outside bets are a little easier to understand:
- Red or Black: Placing the chip on one of these colours the player feels the number in which the ball lands consists of.
- Odd or Even: Same premise but staking on whether they believe it will be odd or even.
- Dozens Bet: A bet placed on the grouping of numbers they believe it could be, with 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36 typically available.
- Column Bet: A bet on the boxes that appear at the bottom of each column.
Each bet has a different payout ratio, and it is wise to understand the returns of each one before placing the bet to ensure an enhanced experience is obtained.
Strategies to use when playing roulette
To enhance the experience and maximize the win potential that is on offer, players should be looking to use several roulette strategies. While these are far from sure-fire and a guaranteed method to win, they can give players a better chance of seeing rewards at the roulette table. The Martingale Strategy is the most common and arguably the easiest to adopt. This requires players to stick to the outside bets when being used, as they will need to double their stake every time they lose. If they record a winner, they can go back to their initial starting stake. Alternatively, it is possible to use the D’Alembert Roulette Strategy. This is similar to the Martingale Strategy but requires players to focus on bets that provide even money. It also requires players to decrease their stake unit when they lose or add one when they win. Strategies – when used properly – can prolong the gameplay experience, which can help you to maximize the number of wins that can be achieved during a session.
