Some 14 sections of highway totalling around 7km in length will be improved over a 3-week period, beginning on 10th November.
The roads to be improved are Mayfield Road in East Cowes, Howgate Road in Bembridge, Quay Lane in Brading, Shore Road in Ventnor, High Street and Heathfield Road in Freshwater, Arctic Road/Bridge Road in Cowes and Parkhurst Road in Newport.
The locations have been chosen following the annual road condition survey that identified those sections as among those in most need of attention.
Though Parkhurst Road looks to be in good condition, work is there is needed to improve skid resistance.
The project is in addition to the Spring’s surface dressing programme in which 14km of road were improved. November’s work will involve planing off the road surface before laying a new surface.
All work will be done during the day, with the exception of Parkhurst Road, which will take place at nigh,t given the busy nature of the road.
Full road closures will be in place during the resurfacing, but where possible, Island Roads will re-open the roads outside of work periods if it is safe to do so,
Advance warning signs will be put out at each site ahead of work starting, and affected residents will also receive letters explaining more about the work and how it will affect them.
An Island Roads spokesperson has said:
“The programme is being delivered late in the year to avoid the busy summer months. However, with work of this nature it is impossible to avoid some disruption, so we’d like to thank residents in advance for their co-operations.
“Residents will know that the sections we are tackling are in need of upgrade so we hope that any short-term inconvenience will be offset by the longer-term improvement the work will bring.”
