Resurfacing works in Shanklin High Street have been cancelled tonight (Friday) due to a damaged water main, extending the overall closure period of the busy through road.
Due to ongoing repairs by Southern Water, Island Roads are unable to continue their resurfacing overnight forcing the cancellation of the pre-planned work. It comes just days after another burst water main meant that the road could not reopen to traffic on Wednesday morning after partial completion of the carriageway resurfacing overnight on Tuesday.
It is understood both water mains were struck.
Meanwhile in Newport, lane closures on Medina Way have been planned for the coming weekend at very short notice.
Due to urgent maintenance works required on the bridge, traffic will be reduced down to one lane on both the northbound and southbound carriageways between 07:00 and 19:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. Delays are likely.
