Alfred Street in East Cowes has been closed to allow Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to carry out emergency repairs.
The road has been closed from its junction with Adelaide Grove for a distance of 23 metres.
Motorists are being diverted via Adelaide Grove, Minerva Road and Clarence Road.
The one-way restriction on Alfred Street has been lifted temporarily to allow access to properties.
