UPDATED: Red Funnel’s hi-speed Red Jet has this afternoon collided with a yacht in The Solent, according to reports.
It is understood that an out of control yacht under sail came into contact with the side of Red Jet 4, leaving damage to the vessel’s hull as it left it’s West Cowes mooring.
It is currently unknown if further damage has been suffered below the water line.
The 16:15 sailing from West Cowes has not run as a result of the incident.
Island Echo have requested a statement from Red Funnel, however the ferry company are yet to respond.
UPDATE @ 17:00 – Island Echo understand the yacht involved in the collision left the scene without stopping or making any attempt to turn around.
Cowes Harbour Master is now investigating the incident and has acquired the yacht’s sail number from Red Funnel staff.
UPDATE @ 17:07 – Red Funnel are reporting that their Red Jet service is cancelled until further notice due to adverse weather conditions.
UPDATE SATURDAY – Following on from yesterday’s incident, Red Funnel are running a revised hourly timetable today on their Red Jet service.
The hi-speed service between West Cowes and Southampton will be running every hour at xx:45 and xx:15, with the first jet leaving at 05:45 from Southampton and 06:15 from West Cowes. The final jet will leave Southampton at 23:45 and West Cowes at 00:15.

UPDATED MONDAY: Red Jet 4 has been repaired and will be back in service this afternoon. A normal two-craft service will resume tomorrow (Tuesday).
