From calming nerves on choppy crossings to stepping up to make every trip special, Red Funnel’s 2025 First Class Service Awards celebrate the staff who make every sailing special, as chosen by those whose opinion matters most – the customers.
Last year, 844 nominations were submitted, with more than 40% coming directly from customers who took the time to single out crew members who made a difference to their crossings. In total, a whopping 229 team members were recognised.
Passengers praised Sarah and Michael for their calm professionalism during an onboard medical emergency, staying by a customer’s side until paramedics arrived. Tina and Nathan were applauded for making everyone on board feel welcome, including 4-legged friends.
Rob was described as a “credit” to Red Funnel after not hesitating to assist a passenger with mobility issues, ensuring they felt safe and comfortable aboard. Lisa received heartfelt praise from a customer who rarely leaves reviews but felt compelled to after a booking enquiry. Expecting a complicated call, they instead described her as “the most helpful customer service agent” they’d ever spoken to, commending her patience, clarity and care.
Speaking on the staff nominations Fran Collins, CEO of Red Funnel, said:
“Behind every smooth crossing is a team of unsung heroes, going the extra mile and delivering exceptional service with a smile, whatever the day brings. These awards are special because the nominations come from those who feel the benefits of that dedication, our customers and their colleagues. Red Funnel would be nothing without the wonderfully different individuals behind it, and it’s a joy to celebrate how they make every journey first-class.”
The awards also celebrate behind-the-scenes heroes nominated by colleagues. Marc and Georgia were also spotlighted for their role in helping to deliver first-class service to customers.
