Red Funnel has been nominated as the ‘Best Ferry Operator from and to UK ports’ at this year’s British Travel Awards.
More than 300,000 people voted in last year’s awards which celebrate a wide range of travel operators and holiday providers across the UK.
People who vote in the awards can be in with a chance of winning some incredible prizes, including a holiday to Greece worth £5,000.
Red Funnel has provided a lifeline service for over 160 years, and is the original Isle of Wight ferry company, connecting the Island with the mainland via Southampton.
The award nomination comes shortly after Red Funnel was recognised by the National Autistic Society for the measures it has taken on board its ferries to provide an inclusive and accessible service to all passengers, including those with autism.
Commenting on the nomination, Fran Collins, CEO of Red Funnel, said:
“Our team is passionate about supporting our customers and maintaining our lifeline service. Winning Best Ferry Operator from and to UK ports from the British Travel Awards would be a tremendous honour and a reflection of their hard work and dedication.
“I want to thank everyone at Red Funnel and especially our incredible passengers – we would be humbled and grateful for their votes.”
Voting is now open to the public and closes on Sunday 1st October.
Winners will be announced at an event in London on Tuesday 28th November.

really – the mind boggles
and really good on there very high prices them and that Wightlink one
Is this news?,.. as Wightlink hasbeen nominated as well
Best joke of the day
None of them deserve nominating, poor service all round Poor excuses for a poor service, high excessive prices is just another reason to add
They are better than Wightlink, and better than the floating bridge I suppose!
I nominate Red Funnel for Rip-off of the Year with Wightlink a close second if not actually in front, as many argue it is..
By God the standard must be low.
Is it April Fools Day already? I must have missed Halloween, Bonfire night. Christmas and New Year!!!!
Sorry everyone – The headline was written wrong – it should read “Red Funnel nominated for most expensive and unreliable ferry operator from and to UK ports”.
As you were…..
Agree Plato , but as long as those silly people keep paying the prices to bring caravans etc etc etc etc over here and off of the island they will both red funnel and wightlink keep their prices at as high as they can .
they both need a reality check as people stop paying the inflated prices and hold back for a few months or so especially in the summer .
easy to say I know not so easy for some to uphold and these ferry companies know this
Good old red fairy funnels
I am 5th generation islander and I use to hate the thought of a bridge or tunnel but now I am thinking it would be the best thing for the island , last time I used the boat it cost £145.00 for a return . Not only is it the cost it’s having to book it for a certain time.
Things that make you go ,hhhhmmmmmm
These industry awards are just them slapping each other on the back.
Bears no relationship to reality.
The other companies must be appalling.
Or does it include small boats from France
They don’t have as many cancellations, but the tickets are a bit more expensive haha.
Lifeline service, what a joke, Total rip off from start to finish, this lot don’t deserve any kind of award, maybe the “Most expensive crossing”, “Dirtiest seats”, “Worst food”, “Don’t Give a S**T About local Islanders” Awards, but that’s it, terrible company, terrible service and awful ships.
