32-year-old Arran Wood, who became so threatening to a hotel receptionist that she had to lock herself in a room and press a panic button, has pleaded guilty to a number of offences including assaulting multiple Police officers.
Wood, previously of The Brambles in Apse Heath but now of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to 6 offences when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Tuesday).
Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, told the court that on 29th November, Wood assaulted a Police officer in the execution of their duty when they attended his home address. Wood refused the officer entry and when they stepped inside the property, Wood thrusted his left hand into their face.
He was arrested and bailed to attend court at a later date, but on Sunday night (15th December) he became involved in another incident.
At around 23:30, Police were called to the Travelodge in Newport – where Wood had just begun a prolonged period of stay – after the 32-year-old became drunk and abusive to staff.
Wood proceeded to tell the night receptionist that she was a ‘fat, ugly c**t’ and a ‘demon wh*re’, whilst also saying he hoped she got cancer. He also stated he was the ‘king of demons’.
Alarmed by his behaviour, the receptionist locked herself in the office and triggered a panic system.
Before Police could arrive, Wood had proceeded to his hotel room where he came into contact with another guest. Wood raised his fists at the guest and threatened to hit him with a fire extinguisher.
When officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary arrived they also felt the brunt of Wood’s behaviour. He pushed an officer into the wall, threatened to head butt officers and then resisted arrest.
Arran Wood was charged and remanded in custody to appear before Tuesday’s court, where he appeared from the cells and pleaded guilty to 3x assault by beating of an emergency worker, assault by beating, resisting arrest and using threatening/abusive words or behaviour to cause fear of unlawful violence.
The court heard how Wood has 13 previous convictions for 24 offences and has previously served time in prison.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that his client had no memory of what had happened and was shocked by the incidents, with admissions of an issue with alcohol.
Magistrates adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be compiled with Wood next due before the court on 4th April 2025.
He has been given conditional bail until that time.
There is so much rubbish on the island,
needs banging up.
how much of a menace to society do you have to become to get locked up these days,
Why is this piece of lowlife being kept in a hotel, obviously on the ponce and on tax payers money, while those who have paid into the system all their working lives, are going cold because of heating cuts. The cuts are being suffered by all the wrong ones
That’s what you get for voting Labour in!
Independent was the way to go.
Actually that was an inherited Tory policy. And people are housed in hotels because the promised house-building policy from the last 14 years of Tory mis-rule never materialised.
‘the Travelodge in Newport – where Wood had just begun a prolonged period of stay’
Why are we housing scum like this in hotels?
Perhaps we should all be leaving reviews on the Travelodge site for this hotel to warn possible guests of the type of person being housed there? It’s not the first time I’ve encountered this at a Travelodge, either. If the number of genuine guests starts dropping dramatically, perhaps Travelodge would have a change of heart about housing wasters like this at, ultimately, our expense.
and leave reviews on Trip Advisor for other
persons to see.
poor girl, i hope the company are supporting her!
