Punters at a pub in Ryde were locked in for their own safety after a man was seen roaming the streets with a knife during the early hours of this morning (Saturday). Staff at Wetherspoons on Union Street are said to have taken the decision to lock the doors to the popular watering hole to protect customers – and staff – inside at the time. The incident began at around midnight when a male was seen to be armed with a bladed article. The situation led to the deployment of multiple Police officers. It’s unknown at this time if any arrests have been made, with an update expected from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary on Tuesday.
