2 men who racially abused a man before threatening to stab him and burn his house down have been jailed.
On 10th June this year, Police were called to St John’s Road in Newport after 29-year-old Joshua Parker and 31-year-old Luke Thorpe had abused and threatened a man outside his own home.
Just 3 days before the incident, on 7th June 2022, Parker had assaulted the same victim.
Appearing at Portsmouth Crown Court last week, Parker, formerly of Culver Parade in Sandown, was jailed for 40 months. He pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault by beating and affray. He is now spending his 30th birthday this week behind bars.
Thorpe, formally of Arnold Road in Cowes, was jailed for 32 months for affray. 6 months of this term came as a result of a suspended sentence being activated, which Thorpe was serving at the time of the offence.
Parker and Thorpe are banned from contacting the victim for a period of 10 years under a restraining order.
The Judge considered the racism involved in these offences as an aggravating factor when considering passing sentence.
so, they can find cells for someone to spend years in, for calling someone names, but others that commit actual serious crimes get suspended sentences

Sometime soon courts will have to impose sentence that actually deter people, if you got ten years , people would say wow thats excessive but fully realising thats what they could get if they committed similar offences, it would be a deterent.
Ten years for making racist threats ? You do know our prisons are full and locking everyone up for long periods doesn’t work. Just look at America and their harsh sentences and over 2 million people in prison over there and still one of the most crime ridden countries in the world.
America has a lot harsher sentences than us for every equal crime yet has an overall higher crime rate per population. Sorry to tell you but “Deterrent” sentencing is a myth.

Hopefully they are in a prison with some men that will teach these boys a lesson,no justification in what they did and because of people like these is why our brothers/sisters of different colour/race are so frightened of us. We all need to get along side by side if we want to remain our freedoms and rights , enough war going on around the world already. Hope that sentences are appealed and increased.
