Around 2000 homes are this morning without power between Binstead and Wootton following a major power outage, which has also affected traffic lights and mobile phones in the area.
Engineers from Southern and Scottish Energy are currently investigating the power cut, which is believed to have emerged shortly before 10:00 this morning.
Mobile phone masts in the area have been effected causing loss of signal for many.
Motorists are advised to proceed with care at junctions as traffic lights have been disabled by the loss of electricity.
UPDATE: Some residents in the area re reporting that electricity has returned intermittently.
UPDATE @ 10:45 – SSE have confirmed that engineers are continuing to work to restore power to all homes today – further update at 12:30.
UPDATE @ 11:10 – A spokesperson for Southern and Scottish Energy has confirmed to Island Echo that a fault on a high voltage network was reported at around 09:40 this morning, effecting 2200 customers.
By 10:15, the majority of customers had been reconnected, although the network was temperamental.
338 customers in Wootton Bridge remain without power this morning as engineers re-route the network in order to restore electricity back to those customers as soon as possible.
