UPDATED: A Police officer has been injured following a road traffic collision on Binstead Hill between Ryde and Wootton this afternoon (Wednesday).
Emergency services including two ambulances and a rapid response paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on the scene near to the roundabout at the top of the hill.
A blue Ford Fusion has collided into the rear of an unmarked Roads Policing Unit Skoda Octavia whilst heading in the Wootton direction.
Although no serious damage has been sustained to either vehicle, the driver of the police car has been placed onto a spinal board as a precautionary measure and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
The occupants of the Ford Fusion, a young family, have been checked over by paramedics.
Traffic is delayed in the area with one lane currently blocked. Motorists are advised to find an alternative route.
UPDATE @ 16:20 – The road has now reopened fully with both vehicles moved off the carriageway, however traffic is still snarled up in the area, although flowing.
The driver of the Ford Fusion involved in the collision have been conveyed to hospital for precautionary check ups.
UPDATE @ 17:17 – Both vehicles have been recovered and traffic has resumed to a normal flow.
