UPDATED: More than 7 Police units are in attendance at Atherley Road in Shanklin tonight (Wednesday) following what is understood to be a robbery and assault.
Officers have descended on the scene alongside paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, who are treating 1 casualty.
The alarm was raised around 21:00.
Island Echo understands Police are is searching for at least 1 individual after a residential property was broken into, robbed and the occupants assaulted.
UPDATE @ 22:38 – The majority of Police units have now left the scene, however 1 vehicle remains outside the property.
Information passed to Island Echo indicates that 2 men entered the property before assaulting a male occupant.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on the incident.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 07:40 – Police remain outside the property this morning as investigations into the incident continue.
Sources say that a man in his 20s was assaulted with a hammer, but Police are still yet to confirm details.
Thankfully, the victim has not sustained any serious injuries but he has been checked over at St Mary’s Hospital.
It remains unclear if Police activity on the ground and in the air in Wroxall, Sandown and St Helens late last night is connected with the ongoing investigation or not.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 11:25 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that they are on the hunt for 2 men who are alleged to have entered the flat on Atherley Road armed with a hammer and a baton.
It is understood the 27-year-old victim is known to the accused.
Investigations continue.
