Police have confirmed that the pursuit of a car seen driving erratically and at speed last night (Friday) ended dramatically when the vehicle crashed. Officers patrolling the Ningwood area of the West Wight noticed a vehicle driving erratically and at speed at approximately 22:30. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it failed to stop, with a pursuit ensuing. Around 10 minutes later, the vehicle collided with a hedge at the junction of Station Road, Wellow and Main Road, Newbridge, as previously reported by Island Echo.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment. Police say that he escaped any serious injury as a result of the collision. Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and no arrests have been made at the current time. The incident has, however, been referred to the Force’s Professional Standards Department for review.
