x5crashburnthouselaneAn early morning, high-speed pursuit on the outskirts of Newport has resulted in a female Police officer sustaining injuries after the 4×4 vehicle she was driving crashed into a stable block, causing serious damage. 

The incident occurred at around 02:40 this morning (Friday) at Burnt House Lane, between Downend and Newport, when the vehicle left the road on a bend before smashing into a brick stable block, resulting in damage to both the building and the BMW X5 4×4 police car.

The officer was taken to St Mary’s Hospital as a precaution, however she was later released.

EXCLUSIVE: Island Echo understands officers from the Island’s Roads Policing Unit were in pursuit of a Blue Citroen Saxo in the Ryde area prior to the collision before loosing the suspect, however it is currently unknown if the two incidents are related.

Burnt House Lane has been subject to a safety closure during the Isle of Wight Festival period to prevent collisions and traffic tailbacks as the road was used as a cut-through during the 2012 Festival.
