3 Police officers who battled to save the life of a man who collapsed at the wheel of his car in Gurnard have been recognised.
In August this year, the ambulance service received a 999 call from the Police stating that officers were on scene at Worsley Road, Gurnard with a person who appeared to not be breathing.
The first officers on scene commenced CPR until an ambulance officer arrived to take over.
At this time an ambulance was not on scene. Whilst waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Police were directed to continue providing CPR which enabled the ambulance officer to commence more advanced life support, including establishing an airway and drug route access.
Officers also had to deal with a member of the public who was being obstructive.
In this case, circulation was achieved by the time the ambulance arrived and the patient survived.
Without this exemplary example of protecting and preserving life, the outcome for this member of the public might have been very different.
PCs Stephen Mitchell, Lee Mabey, Harry Hopper and Olivia Peachey were part of the group of officers who gave life-saving support at the scene.
PCs Mitchell, Mabey and Hopper attended an awards ceremony at the Riverside Centre, Newport on Tuesday 16th November and were presented with an award by Isle of Wight Ambulance Service for their outstanding and invaluable actions which helped save a life.
